Masterclass Trombón / 10 y 11 de abril 2026
Tomer Maschkowski / trombón
Tomer Maschkowski was born in 1982 into an Israeli family living in Rotterdam, where he began studying trombone
at the age of 13 with his grandfather Zvi Ostrowski, a former member of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
He pursued formal studies at Codarts University in Rotterdam, before joining the Staatskapelle Berlin Akademie and
the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, experiences that brought him under the guidance of Daniel Barenboim and deeply
shaped his musical development. He completed his studies at the Universität der Künste Berlin, earning his Master’s degree in 2013 under the mentorship of Andreas Klein.
Since 2012, Tomer has held the position of bass trombonist with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.
He is frequently invited to perform as guest with leading orchestras around the world, including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Boston Symphony and the San Francisco Symphony.
As a soloist, he has performed internationally, including recitals and concerts across Europe, Asia, and the United States.
Tomer is a passionate chamber musician and was a member of several acclaimed ensembles such as the Trombone Unit Hannover, with whom he performed until 2020, and the International Trombone Ensemble. He often appears with the brass ensembles of the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Lucerne Festival. Since 2025, he is a member of the Berlin Trombone Quartet, a new ensemble formed with three close colleagues—principal trombonists of leading Berlin orchestras—uniting their unique musical voices in a dynamic and expressive collaboration.
Beyond the concert stage, Tomer has explored interdisciplinary performance through his collaboration with choreographer Oren Lazovski in the multimedia piece “NO-MAD,” which premiered at Berlin’s Radialsystem in 2016. In his latest creative project, “Sliding thru the Opera,” he performs alongside trombonist Lars Karlin and pianist Ohad Ben-Ari, presenting operatic repertoire reimagined for trombone and piano. The program premiered at the Berlin Philharmonie in 2019 and continues to receive enthusiastic acclaim.
In addition to performing, Tomer is a dedicated educator. He teaches at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, and gives masterclasses regularly around the world, sharing his experience and passion with the next generation of trombonists.
